- Title: NatureScot Commissioned Report 569: Evaluation of NatureScot programme of advice for designated site management
- Summary:As part of its remit, NatureScot aims to bring all designated nature conservation sites into favourable condition. In 2009 NatureScot initiated a series of workshops and subsequent programme of management advice to maintain favourable condition of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and Natura sites and to provide support to bring sites in unfavourable condition into sympathetic management. An independent review was commissioned to identify factors underpinning successes and shortcomings of the programme, to investigate the role of management advice in improving and maintaining the condition of designated sites, and to provide recommendations for future advisory initiatives for owners and occupiers of designated sites. The review involved a survey of 31 owners and occupiers, advisors and NatureScot staff, and covers a range of topics.
